Research Security Training Requirement

In accordance with National Security Presidential Memorandum - NSPM-33 (2021) and the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the WVU Research Office has introduced a new research security training program that must be completed by certain individuals involved in federally funded research.

All "Covered Individuals" (e.g. PIs, Co-PIs, project directors, senior/key personnel, and others identified as Covered Individuals by a federal funding agency) listed on an award submission must certify they have completed research security training in the 12 months PRIOR to submitting proposal. "Certifying" is a legally binding term that you are attesting and swearing that the action you certify is true. The PI will check the box in WRAP certifying for the entire team (WVU and non-WVU personnel). Please make sure training is complete before checking the box.

• U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
• National Science Foundation (NSF)
• National Institutes of Health (NIH)
• National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) 
• Department of Defense (DOD) - project specific, check NOFO and terms and conditions.

• If you do not have a WVU login and your employer does not have an approved Research Security course, complete the training at the NSF SECURE center. This training is approved by all federal agencies.
